Winter Solstice Snow

January 18, 2010

Our gutters started to fill with large ice blocks which was brining them down – that happened during the thaw when large dollops of snow then careered off the roof onto the ice which was the last straw. Slates off too – looks like the thaw will be expensive for us. It also made wandering around the house very dangerous.

The New Year also sees the annual Curling Club pub quiz – we came in second last this year which was good considering our team mates bummed out in the first round – which was all about curling rules and they were the only curlers in the team. It also didn’t help that one was a shortsighted half deaf blacksmith and the other was very deaf so between them they conferred by shouting out the answers to each other and by side effect the entire room of competitors. We were getting 7 to 8 answers right each round but the others were getting 9 to 10 right! The bottles of Pale Ale made it worthwhile. I consoled myself with a Lidl Canadian lobster in Mayonnaise which for a fiver was a recessionary crustacean.

Pool sessions for kayaking were delayed with the pools being shut due to bad weather and broken heaters – Ali had built up my kayak which was broken down and washed for winter – however I only noticed on the day of the pool session that he had mixed up parts – Kim and Stu helped disassemble and reassemble in the correct order the sections and I whisked it over to Berwick for some rolling lessons and failed braces.
